About this course

Practical English Foundations is a beginner-friendly learning pathway built around useful communication. Learners listen, speak, practice, and apply English through realistic everyday situations.

Course curriculum

Level 1A — First Communication

1. Level 1A — First Communication

Level 1A - First Communication helps beginning learners build the essential English needed to introduce themselves, exchange basic personal information, understand common everyday expressions, ask and answer simple questions, and participate in short guided interactions. Learners develop confidence through practical vocabulary, listening, pronunciation support, structured speaking practice, comprehension checks, and communication challenges. The focus is on using simple English successfully rather than memorizing grammar rules. By the end of the mini-course, learners should be able to communicate basic information about themselves and everyday life with greater confidence and understanding, then complete a Review & Communication Checkpoint to demonstrate readiness for Level 1B.

Level 1B — Everyday Conversations

2. Level 1B — Everyday Conversations

Level 1B - Everyday Conversations helps learners move from basic exchanges to short, practical conversations about interests, past activities, future plans, work, appointments, home and neighborhood issues, services, weather, and everyday problems. Learners strengthen listening accuracy, conversational vocabulary, polite requests, follow-up questions, clarification strategies, and problem-solving language through guided conversations, micro-dictation, communication challenges, listening checks, and self-assessment. By the end of the mini-course, learners should be better able to begin, continue, clarify, and complete a short everyday conversation with greater independence. The mini-course concludes with a Review & Communication Checkpoint that assesses listening, cumulative communication knowledge, and a communication performance task.
